Blackbird, a web browser for African-Americans (wtf?), is now available. (I’m not linking to it. Google it.) What a precious waste of talent ’cause you know, a mind is a terrible thing to waste and plenty brain cells were squandered creating this poorly executed browser.

While I could only muster one coherent word (stupid) when discussing Blackbird with my nerd camp folks and black blogger peeps on twitter, others let it rip.

Cecily’s post is funny and succinct. The title alone is hilarious:
Blackbird: I was not waiting for this moment to arise

Tiffany B. Brown, puts it all in perspective:
Dear Black Entrepreneurs

And Karsh does a features breakdown, complete with screenshots. Hot damn.
Blackbird, The First Web Browser for African-Americans

Massive Fail. I have a feeling it won’t be too long before we’ll all be singing Fletcher Henderson’s “Bye Bye Blackbird.” I wish the creators well, pobrecitos. They are probably smart folks in general. But we all make mistakes. Let’s hope they can learn from this one and move on to creating something more useful, palatable and ultimately, for them, lucrative.
